Stadium architects can revamp their security with perforated metal sheets and anti-climb features.

Viral video of stadium trespassers exposes poor security

A video of teens breaking into the West Ham stadium in London recently went viral. This break-in has prompted West Ham to investigate its current security measures and see what can be done to prevent future incidents like this. Stadium architects could take a hint from Locker Group, who helped secure the premises of Perth Arena as well as contribute to its award-winning aesthetics.

Night crawlers causing trouble in stadiums

The Mirror reported that the sneaky teens filmed their wild night of breaking into the stadium. They then posted the video on YouTube for all the world to admire. The video shows them climbing onto the roof and dangling their legs over the edge as well as walking across beams. The troublemakers have dubbed themselves “Night Scape” and were able to get into the venue through just a small access point in the wall.

It makes for entertaining footage but has revealed weaknesses in the London Stadium’s security.

Although Night Scape caused no damage, other trespassers have more destructive motives. BBC reports that vandals have set fires in a stadium in Preston, England called Deepdale. The venue has repeatedly been a “victim of a number of incidents” involving “extensive criminal damage,” according to Deepdale’s website.
In addition, such vandalism looks harmless when compared to potential terrorism, which all large venues the world over should be guarding themselves against.

Locker Group’s contribution to Perth Arena

Locker Group is proud of its part in creating the striking architectural wall in the Perth Arena that is both secure and aesthetically pleasing.

Locker Group helped with the anti-climb security fence that protects a particular area of the stadium. Preventing people climbing into stadiums was a feature that Locker Group and the other designers thought was crucial to ensuring security. The fence covers 1,000 square metres of both plain unperforated and perforated panels. The holes promote airflow while also making it impossible for trespassers to get in.

Not only does the perforated metal bar intruders from getting in, but these materials were also custom designed by Locker Group to create beautiful textures and colours. As a result, the now iconic architecture was one of seven shortlisted projects in the 2013 World Architecture Festival awards.

Being both stunning and secure, The Perth Arena was a successful project thanks in part to Locker Group’s materials. Contact us today to understand how we can help secure and add to your beautiful architecture.
